CUSEC focuses on implementing various forms of research activities. Basic research will focus on discovering new knowledge and theories, such as theoretical models of cybersecurity regulation, analysis of the development of cyber threats, or ethical and legal aspects of personal data protection and privacy in the context of cybersecurity. Applied research will focus on solving specific practical problems, such as the development and evaluation of regulatory tools to improve cybersecurity or the design of guidelines and methodologies for the protection of personal data in the context of cybersecurity and crime. Surveillance research, oriented towards long-term observation, will be devoted to monitoring cyber attacks, statistical evaluation of cyber crime, tracking changes in legislation and evaluating their effectiveness.
In terms of substantive focus, the research activity will focus on three areas: regulation of cybersecurity, protection of privacy and personal data, and cybercrime. These areas are interconnected and interrelated. At the same time, they are related to a wider spectrum of legislation than direct regulations of these areas (for example, disinformation, hybrid threats, legal design, artificial intelligence, etc.). The outputs will be intended for publication in scientific journals indexed in the SCOPUS or Web of Science databases, which guarantees their excellent professional quality and international usability. At the same time, the knowledge gained within the framework of research activities will be transformed into the pedagogical process and also in the educational activities of the competence center.
Members of the research team will participate in domestic and foreign conferences and organize the international scientific conference "Bratislava Legal Forum 2025", which will be organized in September 2025.
CUSES will also support doctoral students who want to specialize in cybersecurity, privacy protection and cybercrime. The first priority will be to list dissertation topics related to the competence center's focus. Scholarships and grants will also be provided for research on issues related to the competence center's focus.
